About

re_portrait2014-1I am a Senior Economist at the World Bank.

Before joining the World Bank, I was a Lecturer in the Economics Department at Stanford University and a Research Associate at the Centre for Economic Performance, London School of Economics and at Harvard Business School (PhD at Jesus CollegeUniversity of Cambridge).

I am affiliated with the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP-LSE), the International Growth Centre (IGC), and the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).

My research field is applied micro-economics. My interests include topics in managerial and organizational economics and development economics (with a focus on emergencies).  My work spans three main areas. First, I examine managers’ decisions about their own labor supply, including the practices they adopt, how they allocate time across tasks, and how they exercise authority at the intensive margin. Second, I study organizational practices around the selection, allocation, and retention of managers and workers at the extensive margin. Third, I explore how organizations can mitigate the impacts of macro-level shocks—ecological, epidemiological, and political crises—and how these shocks, in turn, influence organizational practices and outcomes. My research covers diverse regions (Latin America, Southeast Asia, Europe, and Africa) and sectors (manufacturing, healthcare, and education).
